Russell grew roots within the central California surf culture and decided he'd never leave, and would pick up a camera while he was at it.
Russell is instilled with the strong belief that our artistic perspective is formed and shaped by our individual experiences, it’s what we as humans cling to in order to decipher what unfolds in front of us and allows us to each see with different eyes.
Being the son, grandson, and brother to architects, Russell was raised around the appreciation for visual aesthetic and design but broke the mold.
His life and work revolve around hunting those moments and letting them be just that: a split-second in time we will never get back, but instead have a photograph that will remind us that it was really was as good as we remembered it to be.
He attended Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo, acquiring a scholastic approach to the world of marketing and advertising, and took a full-time position with adventure photographer, Chris Burkard, the day after graduation. Over a span of three years, Russell worked beside Burkard shooting campaigns for clients such as Apple, AirBnB, The North Face, Coors Light, and FitBit. He is currently freelance.
Russell currently resides in San Luis Obispo, CA but can be found photographing projects worldwide.
